Pastor Chris Matthews has been married to Bonnie since June of 2000. God has blessed them with three daughters Hannah, Allison, and Felicity. Bonnie not only serves as Pastor's wife but also as the church pianist.

The Lord used Dr. plato Shepherd to start Smoky Valley Baptist Church in October 1, 1999. On October 1, 2005 he resigned and Pastor Chris Matthews was called to pastor the church.
